My Dance Journey

Dance has been an integral part of my life since I was three years old. What began as a childhood passion has blossomed into a lifelong journey of learning, teaching, performing, and sharing the beauty of Indian dance with others.

Classical Roots and Cultural Expression

Since the beginning, I have trained in both Bollywood and Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance form. Currently, I am preparing for one of the most significant milestones in my classical journey, my Arangetram, which is scheduled for July 2025.

Besides focusing on these two styles, I have explored and embraced other Indian dance forms including Raas, Bhangra, and Fusion, allowing me to connect more deeply with my cultural roots while sharing them in contemporary and creative ways.

Teaching and Mentorship

Teaching has become one of the most fulfilling parts of my dance journey.

  • I offer private Bollywood dance lessons for girls of all ages.

  • I also volunteer at Kalashree Dance Academy, assisting younger students in learning Bharatanatyam.

  • During high school, I taught and choreographed dances for the South Asian Student Association as a Vice President (sophomore and junior year) and a choreographer (since freshman year)

Starting this summer, I will be hosting Bollywood dance workshops to continue expanding my reach and inspire more dancers.

Performing and Competing

I’ve had the honor of performing and competing as a solo competitive dancer at events such as Spotlight and Thunderstruck, where I proudly showcased Indian dance styles on mainstream platforms.

Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I remained dedicated by enrolling in a Seattle-based dance academy, (name), to continue training in competitive Bollywood dance, adapting to virtual formats while maintaining my passion.

Dance for Charity

Dance has also been my way of giving back. For the last three years, I have volunteered and performed with the Hand in Hand organization at their annual Spring Fundraiser, using my art to raise awareness and support causes in India.

Sharing My Passion Online

To share my journey beyond the stage and studio:

I launched a YouTube channel as a creative outlet and way to connect with family and friends.

In October 2022, I created my Instagram page @dancebyrisha to continue sharing my choreography, performances, and love for dance with a growing community.

Beyond the Studio

From helping with wedding and family event choreography, such as dhoti functions and baby showers, to mentoring younger dancers, my goal is to make dance more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
